Jean-Marie Cavada (EPP, France)
Journalist, President of Radio France, RFO and founder of France 5, Jean-Marie Cavada was elected Member of the European Parliament in 2004 and Chairman of Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee (2005-2007). Leader of the Nouveau Centre during the European elections for the region Île-de-France, he was re-elected in 2009 and became member of the Culture and Education, and Legal affairs Committees. He is also Vice-President of the French EPP delegation and Chairman of the Media Intergroup.
Deeply attached to the protection of fundamental rights, he joined this platform to defend principles such as secularism and freedom of thought. Jean-Marie Cavada is looking forward to having some constructive debate with the different religious organisations of the platform while ensuring the respect of freedom thought, conscience and religion, the fight against the domination of a religion above the State and society, equality of religions including the right not to believe.
